Growing Herbs
Most people think of herb gardens and immediately picture tidy little plots growing in the backyard or bordering a kitchen vegetable garden. The truth is, you do not need the big patch of soil used for traditional kitchen herb gardens. You can grow many useful herbs right on your kitchen counter. More than Seasonings The first step in building a healthy countertop herb garden is to decide exactly what type of herbs you want to grow. Herbal plants can be used in many ways. The aromatic qualities of many herbs make them useful for much more than simply as a seasoning or culinary garnish. Some herbs have beneficial medical qualities and others are useful as…
Read On Readers!
I have always been incredibly passionate about reading. I just could not help myself. It all happened after I check out my first book from the local library in the small town in Maryland where I grew up. When I read that book I was in another world. It was a world that was designed by the author, but put together inside my head. It is like I was an engineer, and only at the age of seven!
Life of a Book
Obviously reading is something that I absolutely love to do. Without books and reading I would not have been able to travel to all of the places and lands that I have. Some places very real while others are completely unrealistic. Regardless, I have been to these places thanks to words and my imagination. It is so incredible to think about how simple words on pages can come together to create intricate stories that I want to continue following until the end.

Books: The Year in Review
The year 2011 has made certain things clear to us that once were up for grabs: for one thing, people still love to read, and secondly, the hunger and anticipation avid readers have for that next great book is still an important concern. It was a great year for excellence in literature, from books written primarily for adult readers to children’s and young adult novels. Some truly excellent titles debuted, while sequels to books in popular series continued their upward trend. Many readers grew their at home libraries with hard back purchases, for which it’s good to have a home security team in place, while others amassed their digital libraries instead of going for “analogs.”
Read Then Watch
The Hunger Games Just like many other book lovers, I find that film adaptations of some of my favorite books are not what they should be or could be. I often get disappointed when I feel like some of the best parts are altered or left out all together to add entertainment value for those who have not read the book. Another reason I have a hard time watching movies created from books is that the creators of the film seem to have an imagination much smaller than my own. It makes the movies not nearly as interesting and detailed as the book tends to be. While I have an issue with a lot of book to…
40 Years of the eBook
When I finished reading the infographic below and showed it to my friend as we were dining together, she responded: “You’ve got to be kidding me. Everyone knows eBooks haven’t been around for 40 years. More like 4.” Actually, “more like 4″ is exactly what most people think. You might also be startled to learn that the majority of people are still convinced that eBooks are a fad. However, the recent explosion in sales reported by eBook publishers stands to challenge this myth. Just yesterday, Amazon.com entered the tablet market with its Kindle Fire device, and revamped its entire lineup of the world’s most popular e-reader, the Kindle — introducing new, less expensive models with…
Changing Books For Good
Just five years ago I was the girl lugging around a massive and heavy handbag because I always had to have at least two books with me. You never know when you will have to wait and need something to do, and the train ride I had to take twice daily was not exactly short, so having books on hand was just the ticket. Everything changed and improved when I got my Kindle as a Christmas gift. No longer did I have to break my back in order to have books on me at all times, and I was no longer limited to just two books. I could have a plethora of books with me…
Read and Watch
I’m not a hater of movies, in fact, I love watching movies. It’s fun to escape to another world and not have to really use your imagination to get there sometimes. The thing is, I love books more than movies. Maybe my mom was right, my imagination is far too big to be real. You see, when I read I create the world and the characters and everything in a book using my imagination based off of the description. And when I watch a movie after I’ve read the corresponding book I get really upset and frustrated when the things I am seeing do not match up to my take on things. Silly, I know,…
How to be Green
How to be Green With an eReader In today’s world, it is becoming more and more important to take note of which things we do and use on a daily basis have a significant impact on the environment. So often many people wonder how to be green. Conserving energy and being more friendly to the environment around us is something that everyone is getting on board with.
